Lab tests

There has been an urgent need recently to emphasize cancer prevention since Hungary takes a leading position in the European statistics with the number of deaths due to these diseases. We believe in reducing the cancer mortality rate by focusing individual behaviors, public policy and discussion, research on prevention and how important the early detection is because the majority of cases can be cured in a significant percentage.

The vast majority of cancer does not cause any signs or symptoms for a long time. Patients will only see a doctor when they are in trouble, the process is extensive and physical symptoms are observed (great weight loss, loss of appetite, pain, etc)

The essence of the screening test is to filter patients in time who have no signs or any symptoms, however, the investigation suspected cancers. With certain lab tests - a single blood test serves the availability to screen a number of options for cancer. For males for example PSA, i.e. prostate-specific antigen can be screened or CA-125 in women, which is specific for gynecological cancer. Unfortunately, these routine screenings in Hungary are impossible due to financial considerations.

The screening for gastrointestinal cancers such as gastric, colorectal cancer, which may be asymptomatic for a long time, is also very important. Using a simple test of the specimen of stools the smallest amount of blood can be detected which certainly can not be perceived by the naked eye. In positive cases the study may also refer to other bleeding disorders that later, in the absence of treatment, might be the cause of cancer. (Eg, stomach ulcers, colon polyps).

Thus, summing up the meaning of the above mentioned words, we can say that by submitting to these tests a lot can be done to ensure the discovery of cancer in time at an early stage, consequently a complex therapy gives much greater chance of a complete recovery.

In the laboratories of Medical Center Budapest the following tests can be completed:

- FILTERABLE TUMOR MARKERS:

  • CEA (carcinoma embryonic antigen → gastrointestinal cancers)
  • AFP (alpha-fetoprotein → liver and germ cell tumors)
  • PSA, FPSA (prostate-specific antigen Prostate Cancer →)
  • BETA-HCG (beta human chorionic gonadotrophin hormone-→ testicular and ovarian)
  • CA 15-3 (breast cancer, Cancer Antigen → 15.3)
  • CA 19-9 (pancreatic Cancer antigen → 19.9)
  • CA 72-4 (Cancer Antigen 72.4 → stomach cancer)
  • S-100 (S-100 protein → melanoma)
  • TPA (tissue polypeptide antigen → bladder and lung cancer)

- FULL BLOOD TEST:

  • Ions (sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium ...)
  • Iron metabolism (iron, transferring, ferritin, folate, B-12 ...)
  • Carbohydrate metabolism and diabetes (glucose, OGTT, insulin ...)
  • Lipid metabolism (cholesterol, TG, HDL, LDL)
  • Liver and pancreas (bilirubin, AST, Gamma GT, lipase, amylase ...)
  • PROTEINS
  • HORMONES
  • Communicable diseases (Helicobacter, toxoplasma, rubella, cytomegalovirus virus, Herpes Simplex, Eppstein Barr, hepatitis viruses, syphilis, Borrelia, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma ...)
  • MICROBIOLOGY (culturing fungi and bacteria test in various body fluids (e.g., nose, throat, wound, scabbard ...)
  • SCREENING AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
  • ALLERGY TEST

- COMPLETE URINALYSIS

Monitoring urine glucose (sugar), protein, sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, phosphorus, urea, creatinine, uric acid and amylase and renal function.

- BLOOD GROUP DETERMINATION

- EXAMINATION OF BLOOD COAGULATION

- STOOL
